Ever since I was a kid, I have loved, love that piece of clothing more than any I could think of.
It seriously is a 9 yard wonder, though 90% of the saris made these days are not close to that, but its still a lengthy piece of clothing. Over the past, a lot has changed especially in Fashion trends, they keep on changing — infact, what was considered fashionable in the 60's no longer considered fashionable today. In India, there have been thousands of invasions, conquests by foreign rulers, changes in cultures & rulers — and still the tradition of wearing sarees never changed!

However, in recent years the amount of people that wear saris have decreased exponentially, especially in cities its very much rare to see people wearing saris this is mainly due to the western culture influence, India hasn’t been immune to the western influence & culture. It would not be wrong to state that western dresses have indeed penetrated into the Indian culture to a huge extent. However, the importance of the saree cannot be denied as it is matchless. With the transformation of time, many Indian women have followed western trends and they wear jeans, capri, and skirts on a regular basis. But when it comes to cultural festivals, sarees is the way to go.
The general perception after the coming of the ‘Global village’ phenomenon is that the entire population has embraced the western culture. People have lost connection with their roots and rich culture.

Of course, there is nothing wrong in wearing whatever the fook you like, but the tradition of Indian women wearing sari should be passed on for the generations to come.
And yes, sari's are not easy to handle, it takes hours to get into it, and it reduces your mobility severely, because of which the western clothing is a much better option but not being able to pass on this beautiful tradition would be a shame.
I didn't really plan this to be a blog post! I stole some of my mom's sari, the sari's she owned in the 90's! I know!!!! and decided to wear it on a random evening and that’s how the photos came to be, keep in mind this was the first day I decided to wear a sari and stroll the streets of Edinburgh.

*Going a little off track here*
A funny story that happened the same night was while I was busy trying to get the photos copied to my laptop from the camera, I deleted my assignment by mistake and then had to complete the whole thing again in 2 days. Good news: I completed it in a day.
*Back on track*
So coming back to the shoot of sari, I decided to go out again with another sari, wandering the streets, looking for the best places and the pictures turned out to be better than I expected! And I couldn’t wait to write a blog on it.
So here are the reasons why you should wear saree more often!
The prepare you for every occasion
Sarees make a style statement, in a world full of jeans and t-shirts or kurtis and leggings, you automatically and effortlessly stand out.
Sustainable - You get a lot of options to mix and match and wear the same saree in different types.
It suits every freaking body type that’s out there.
Not to mention the fact that there’s no “proper age” for wearing a saree.
You will always have way too many options to choose from.

So want to try it out?
Cotton sarees are the most comfortable ones and are worn by ladies in summers.
When it is worn by working ladies with crisp starch, they magnify its classiness to the zenith level.
Silk sarees can be easily draped because of its soft fabric but Banarsi sarees are little difficult because of their massive stuff.

I hope this blog post has encouraged the readers to wear a saree, and please keep is mind that the saree is not just for a women, In India people still try to make sexist comments to men such as "you are so weak, wear a saree" and things like that, but saree is not gender based, anyone can flaunt it! It's all up to you :)
